Shelley Brown
Senior Stylist – Level 1
I graduated from Vidal Sassoon in 1987 after spending my senior year going to a cosmetology technical school. My dream job was to be an artist for Hallmark, I wanted to design greeting cards. I knew cosmetology could help put me through college, but instead, I fell in love with the craft. Hairstyling fulfills the artist in me.
Stylist Q&A
What part of hairdressing do you love most?
Vidal Sassoon is a specialized school so I honed in on haircutting. I enjoyed creating structures and then going in and deconstructing what I had just created. Over the years, I went back and got my barbering license to understand the top haircutters in the world and also took advanced razor cutting courses.
What about the industry that fuels you?
I honestly get the best education from my team. Watching my co-workers work behind the chair, I get so many tricks of the trade. I also learn from my clients. They bring new ideas and open my mind to products that I might not have recommended. I love working at Cutting Loose because of the education I receive.
What is a fun fact about you?
I am from Kansas City. I am a Chiefs and Raiders Fan. I also love the St. Louis Cardinals.
I don’t like to sit still…I am always on the go.
What do you love to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I love going to Goodwill and finding great deals. I love doing anything outside. Spending time with my niece brings me lots of joy.
What are your top achievements as a hairstylist?
I have enjoyed learning French cutting and French coloring techniques. I have been a British cutting specialist, so learning a new way has been exciting.
