Have you ever experienced a sensitive scalp, tingling or burning during a hair color service? Have you ever felt like the hair color was damaging your hair or drying out your ends?  As a hair stylist I see this happening all the time. Believe it or not, these problems are just as frustrating for the stylists as it is for our guests. Our wish as hair stylists is to give the most beautiful, reflective, conditioned hair color service possible with zero discomfort. In a perfect world, stylists would be able to assure their guests all of these things along with less color fading and easier less noticeable grow out. Wow! Sounds ideal. The fact of the matter is, that in order for hair color to do what it does, it has to contain ammonia. This is what makes the hair cuticle open up and allow hair color into the hair strand. Ammonia however is a fairly harsh chemical and if you have sensitive skin or fragile hair, it can be your worst enemy. So, what’s a stylist to do??

Good news!! The hair color industry has heard our cry for help and has delivered big time! New technology has been created in order to offer an ammonia free hair color that will cover gray hair. Amazing!! It is definitely the newest revolution in hair color. Now there is an option for those guests who just aren’t cut out for ammonia based products.

An amazing bonus to this new type of color is that it is considered a Demi- permanent color so it’s like leasing with an option to buy. This also means a more subtle regrowth line as your hair grows.

Recently, I’ve had the chance to work with Paul Mitchell’s version of ammonia free color called “Shines XG.”  I was blown away by the brilliant color and shine this line offers with no downside. I was also impressed with the colors that were offered in this line including the top four trending colors right now – icy blonde, copper-violet, soft honey brown and cool wheat-toned blondes.

I encourage you to ask your stylist if this new technology is right for you. Who knows, you may be on your way to beautiful hair color with none of the hassle!
